Professor Park Chang-gyu, of the Department of Cardiology at Korea University Guro Hospital, won the Best Clinical Research Award at the 19th Spring Academic Convention of the Korea Hypertension Association, held at Hotel W on May 15 and 16 in Seoul.
Prof. Park¡¯s article that garnered the award is entitled: ¡°The central systolic and pulse pressures better predict future CVE than does peripheral pressure in hypertensive patients.¡± The essay was widely praised, as it was the outcome of the first long-term, invasive tracing research work that convincingly argued that central systolic and pulse pressures are much more useful in predicting whether cardiovascular diseases would develop in the future than are peripheral pressures.
Prof. Park also gave a lecture, entitled ¡°The Significance of Central Pulse Pressures in Treating Hypertension, at the Clinic, at Home and in Daily Activities,¡± at the spring academic convention, in which he argued that central systolic pulse pressures are better than peripheral pressures in predicting albumin in minuscule quantities as well as other cardiovascular diseases.
Prof. Park commented on his award: ¡°I hope my research would provide the basis for developing an index that makes better and more accurate predictions of complications in hypertensive patients.¡±
