Korea Artificial Organ Center was nominated as the Best Research Institute of Korea University on Tuesday, April 27, 2010. Each of affiliated research institutes of Korea University was evaluated by the reports of the year of 2008, and the award ceremony was held at the Conference Hall I at the Grand Auditorium.
Korea¡¯s one and only research center specializing in artificial organs, Korea Artificial Organ Center was founded in 2002, with the funding and support from the Human-Tech 21 Project by the Ministry of Public Health and Welfare. The center studies the development and industrialization of artificial organs, tissue engineering using stem cells and other supporting systems, and nano-biology, combining nanotechnology, biotechnology and information technology in various multi-disciplinary projects. The research center also participates in national and private-sector projects aiming at a comprehensive development of artificial organs that could replace the vital organs including the heart, the kidneys and the liver.
